Spring Greetings, WSAPT Members!

The 2015 Spring Conference is over and for those who weren't able to attend, we missed you! This conference was an overwhelming success in many aspects - attendance was up, two great educational tracks to choose from, an ICC Certification Exam Session (which 15 people took!), as well as a sense of comradery and excitement among the participants. Many thanks to your hard working WSAPT Officers and Committees who helped with this success--I appreciate the time and talents you have donated to WSAPT! Part of the excitement (at least on my part) was the much anticipated amendment to the bylaws--with the main amendment in regard to changing the number of committees and defining the function of each. The hope is fewer committees, more committee members on each led by one Chair. With that said----I am pleased to announce the proposed bylaw amendments were approved as written! The amended bylaws will be posted soon, so please take time to review the new committees and the function of each. Then....follow where your passion may be--planning a conference, developing future education path, assisting with membership requests or community outreach and sign up for a committee! WSAPT needs your help to remain viable and to grow. If you are interested in signing up, please contact any WSAPT officer.

Last but not least, with the 20th Anniversary of WSAPT approaching, it is time to update and revitalize not only our bylaws but our logo. A link to vote on the final four logo options was sent out via surveymonkey. If you did not receive a request, please contact website@wsapt.org.

Let's make this year as meaningful as WSAPT's first year - one of revitalization, growth and renewed sense of excitement for our profession!

Peace - Cindi

WSAPT 2014-2015 President’s Message

Fall Greetings, WSAPT Members!

Well, here I am -- for one last year (more below on why just one year), writing to you as your newly elected WSAPT President -- I would sincerely like to thank the voting members at the WSAPT Fall ABM for having the confidence to elect me to lead WSAPT during this 20th Anniversary Year!

For those of you who don’t know me, my focus for WSAPT hasn’t changed –

• Education - continue WSAPT’s mission of providing affordable, quality education to assist membership with expanding your knowledge, skills, and abilities to become Code Officials who can and do make a difference in our communities.
• Certification - continue to promote PT certification and the Permit Specialist certification (once it becomes available).
• Community Outreach – In addition to charity drives at each conference, schedule at least one community outreach project each year. This could be something as simple as working on a community clean-up event, working on a Habitat for Humanity project the day before WSAPT ABM, Adopt a Highway, Jr. Achievement, or mentoring the next generation to become Code Officials. There are many other community outreach opportunities and WSAPTs participation can make a difference in the communities we work, live and play in.
• Stay strongly aligned with being good stewards of WSAPT funds.
• Be contributing members to ICC, Region II and WABO, partnering with educational opportunities and committees.

I would like to thank out-going President Jen Francis, for her work and dedication over the past four years for leading this Chapter to a new level--Jen has assumed the position of Past President, so her participation and ideas will continue to be appreciated! Many thanks also to Amy Donlan, out-going Treasurer -- Amy's dedication to being a good steward of WSAPT funds has played a major part in keeping conference rates low. And lastly, but definitely not least, thank you to Marlei´ LaChance, out-going Recorder--keeping up-to-date records for the Chapter is not always easy, and your attention to updating the Recorder’s archived vital records is appreciated! Thank you, Ladies, for the dedication and spirit that you gave (and will continue to give) to WSAPT!

I am happy to introduce your new WSAPT EBoard –

• President – Cynthia (Cindi) Somers, City of Richland, president@wsapt.org
• Past President - Jen Francis, City of Bonney Lake, pastpresident@wsapt.org
• 1st VP - Michele Miller, City of Mill Creek, vp1@wsapt.org
• 2nd VP - April Shrader, City of Auburn, vp2@wsapt.org
• Treasurer - Kim O'Hara, City of Burlington, treasurer@wsapt.org
• Recorder - Kim Shaw, City of Monroe, recorder@wsapt.org

Jen, Michele, and Kim S. are all past WSAPT EBoard members, and, while April and Kim O. are new, both have been active as Committee Chairs over the years. This EBoard brings both experience and a fresh perspective to help keep the Chapter on an upward path for the upcoming year and beyond. Please free to contact any of the new EBoard with any comments you may have.

I had mentioned above that I will be serving as President for one year only. At the 2014 WSAPT ABM, the Bylaws were ratified to approve shorter officers’ terms. The intent is that one can start as 2nd VP and progress to President within three years. The hope is that more members will take advantage of the opportunity to serve on the EBoard due to a shorter term.

OPPORTUNITY: Most successful men have not achieved their distinction by having some new talent or opportunity presented to them. They have developed the opportunity that was at hand. – Bruce Morton

In closing, I would personally like to encourage each one of you to take advantage of this opportunity -- an opportunity to gain valuable skills in leadership, education, and professional development by joining a committee or serving on the EBoard. Being an active member of WSAPT does offer endless opportunities. As WSAPT members, we all need to take that leap, get involved in whatever way you possibly can –test the waters, you don’t need to dive head first -- join a committee as a member – the more members each committee has, the lighter the workload for all. Please take the time to visit WSAPT Committee Details, join a committee -- help develop and grow WSAPT and our Permit Tech profession and let’s make our own opportunities!

Here’s to a grand 20th Anniversary Year for WSAPT as well as a rewarding career for all!

Peace –
Cindi

Volunteers Make WSAPT Vibrant

It’s almost time to pass the torch. My second presidential term is quickly coming to an end. This endeavor has been a huge learning experience for me. I would like to thank all of those who have served as Executive Board Members and Committee Chairs during my tenure. I could not have accomplished all that we did without you. But, alas, it is time for succession planning. I would like to encourage each of you to think about volunteering and committing to a position on the WSAPT EBoard or as a committee chair. It is not an easy job, but it is full of rewards and blessings.

We are approaching the end of terms for several Executive Board positions (President, 1st Vice President, and Recorder) and we would love to give you more information about being a WSAPT volunteer before the Fall election.

Please contact any Executive Board member for more information. We would love to have you sit in on an Executive Board or Committee Chair Meeting so that you can see what it is involved in making our association so great. Make 2014 the year to become more active in your association!

Sincerely,

Jen Francis
President
WSAPT

Welcome from President Jennifer Francis

Welcome to our website!  It is something that we are very proud of as an organization.  Countless hours were put in by Heidi Napolitino to make this website as intuitive as it could possibly be.  My eternal gratitude to her dedication to a difficult project that helps us venture into the 21st century.

You will find it much easier to navigate around the site.  We have included features that allow you to register on-line for your membership and for our classes and conferences.  It will allow you to track the history of classes that were offered and the ability to see other organizations that are offering training that our members may be interested in taking.  There will be a forum available to ask questions from members that check the website and are available to give input. You will be able to nominate a member of the year and apply for the scholarship all on our website.  We encourage you to take the “Poll of the Moment” when you are checking out the website.  We will be able to gauge our training opportunities based on your votes.  If you are a member, make sure you sign in and update your profile, it’s great to have those pictures of everyone so that we can put a face with a name.

We have several great classes scheduled for 2013!  I am excited that we will be returning to Campbell’s Resort in October for our Fall Conference once again.  I hope that you are intrigued by the classes that we are offering in April and that you will register to join us in Sammamish on the 22nd.

Also, I am happy to announce that Kim Shaw is our current 2nd Vice President.  If you are interested in serving on a committee or you are interested in filling one of our soon to be vacant positions, please let a board member know.

Please take a moment to browse the website and let us know what you think.   Enjoy!

Jennifer Francis, CPT

President, WSAPT
